Hackensack, the county seat, has the biggest population with a resident count of 43,010. Other popular locations include Paramus Park as well as the Westfield Garden State Plaza which is one of the biggest shopping malls in the United States.

Bergen County is a wealthy county with plenty of fun things to do, but it is also an area that has been greatly affected by the rising drug epidemic.

In 2017, Bergen County had 308 reported overdoses. Of those, 131 were fatal, and 111 of them were heroin/opiod related. Drug related deaths were 85 in 2015, and 99 in 2016, a continual increase in deaths in the community. The drug related death increases are consistent with the national trend, and point to how serious this epidemic has become. In New Jersey, fentanyl fueled a 40 percent increase in drug related deaths in 2016.
