September 2020 is National Recovery Month

Annually, the month of September is National Recovery Month. This year will be the 31st observance of National Recovery Month, a long-standing, national observance promoting the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for individuals across the country dealing with substance use disorders and other mental health conditions.

National Recovery Month also promotes the message that recovery is possible, celebrates people living in recovery from addiction, recognizes the contributions of treatment and professional service providers, and overall provides a platform to break the stigma often associated with addiction and mental health issues. Every year during September, addiction treatment centers and organizations, service workers and professionals, recovery programs and support services, and individuals in recovery celebrate recovery through events, initiatives, and educational opportunities.

Sponsored by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), within the national U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), this year’s National Recovery Month will feature a series of national webinars from SAMHSA.

2020 SAMHSA Webinar Schedule:

Outside of the national programs, treatment centers, recovery organizations, and recovery communities throughout the country will hold ongoing celebrations and awareness events. The purpose of these events as local, regional, and nationwide communities is to promote the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, that addiction treatment is effective, and that people can and do recover.
