MARC Receives “Partner in Recovery” Honor from Caron Treatment Centers at 2023 Washington D.C. Recovery for Life Gala

On Thursday, October 19th, Caron Treatment Centers hosted the 12th Annual Recovery for Life Washington D.C. Gala at The Conrad Hotel. This annual event is a celebration of family and recovery, welcoming Caron staff, alumni, alumni families, regional DC-Maryland-Virginia professionals, and donors to share stories of recovery, educate and bring awareness of the disease of addiction, and raise money for Caron’s scholarship fund. The event proceeds are allocated for scholarships to increase access to treatment at Caron Treatment Centers, as well as for program support to ensure unwavering and innovative services that complement the inpatient and outpatient treatment experience and significantly increase recovery outcomes at Caron. The 2023 Washington DC Gala raised over $500,000 for treatment scholarships at Caron in Washington, DC and the surrounding regional area.

Maryland Addiction Recovery Center has long been a partner with Caron Treatment Centers, including the joint venture partnership that MARC and Caron have that operates Arlington, Virginia-based Encore Outpatient Services, a comprehensive outpatient addiction and mental health treatment center offering partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient treatment services. This year, Maryland Addiction Recovery Center was honored by Caron Treatment Centers and the Caron Greater Washington DC Regional Leadership Team with the 2023 “Partner in Recovery” award.

Caron’s Partner in Recovery Award was established to recognize and celebrate a Greater Washington D.C. organization or corporation that has been a significant partner in carrying out Caron’s mission of “Recovery for Life.” Last year’s winner of the Caron Partner in Recovery Award were former United States Senator Rob Portman and current Congressman David Trone. As an organization, we were honored and humbled to receive this award from Caron Treatment Centers and felt a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude.

MARC Co-Founders Sam Bierman and Zach Snitzer accepted the award on behalf of MARC, receiving it from Todd Jacobus, Chairman of the Caron Greater DC Advisory Board, and Sarah McDade, Caron Greater DC Advisory Board member and also honoree of the 2022 Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence. After receiving the award, MARC Co-Founder Sam Bierman made heartfelt remarks, speaking of his time learning while new in the field as an employee at Caron Treatment Centers and the important mentorship he experienced, as well as MARC’s history and mission to support patients and families.

Additional highlights from throughout the evening included Russell A. Hitt (In Memoriam) receiving the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence, presented by former Caron President and CEO Doug Tieman and accepted by Russell’s grandson Wesley Millar, a powerful speech by a Caron alumni, Recovery Care Partner’s Don Sloane giving an update on Caron treatment services, and new Caron President and CEO John Driscoll speaking about the importance of Caron’s mission and his vision of where the organization will go in the future under his new leadership.

As an organization, MARC was honored to be a part of such an important night and recognized for the work we do in the Greater Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. Many MARC staff attended, as well as many alumni family members of MARC patients, and trusted friends and colleagues. Listening to the important stories of alumni speakers and alumni families was impactful. Seeing a room full of dedicated professionals and community members helping to bring awareness about addiction and mental health, discuss the importance of addiction treatment, and share experiences of the transformational power of recovery can be lifechanging, and as an organization, MARC was honored to be a small part of it.
