Family Therapy and Support Program, Owings Mills

Many families in Owings Mills enter treatment feeling exhausted by years of conflict, emotional stress, poor communication, or uncertainty about how to support recovery. Our family therapy and support program treats the family unit as part of recovery rather than limiting involvement to occasional therapy sessions or discharge conversations.

Families remain connected during treatment through ongoing therapy, structured support, recovery education, and regular communication with the clinical team. Participation may include parents, spouses, partners, siblings, close friends, or other trusted support people involved in your long-term recovery.

Our addiction treatment center in Towson also offers immersive family programming designed to help families rebuild healthier communication patterns, strengthen boundaries, and better understand how addiction and mental health conditions affect recovery over time.

Family involvement remains connected throughout addiction and mental health treatment

Many families seeking treatment near Owings Mills feel uncertain about how to support recovery after years of conflict, emotional exhaustion, failed boundaries, or repeated relapse cycles. Family involvement during treatment gives loved ones structured guidance, emotional support, and direct clinical involvement instead of leaving families to manage these challenges alone. Treatment also helps families better understand how addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions affect behavior, communication, and relationships over time.

Family participation remains active throughout treatment through a structured 2-part Family Recovery Program (FRP) that includes weekly online multifamily therapy and an immersive on-campus family-intensive experience. Families remain connected through therapy sessions, phone calls with the clinical team, multifamily support, and ongoing recovery planning during treatment and early recovery.

This ongoing involvement helps many families improve communication patterns, strengthen accountability, reduce enabling behaviors, and create healthier support systems during recovery. Treatment also focuses on helping families respond more effectively during stressful situations while supporting recovery without neglecting their own emotional health and stability.

Weekly online multifamily therapy provides ongoing support between intensive sessions

Weekly online multifamily therapy allows families near Towson and Owings Mills to stay actively involved in recovery without managing long commutes, scheduling disruptions, or repeated travel to in-person sessions. Sessions can be attended from home while balancing work, school, childcare, and other responsibilities that often make consistent participation difficult during treatment. This online structure helps support systems remain connected to recovery education and ongoing clinical guidance throughout treatment.

Family members participate in weekly online sessions with a family therapist alongside a carefully curated group of families experiencing similar recovery challenges. Sessions include group discussions, psychoeducation, emotional processing, and conversations focused on addiction, relapse patterns, trauma, attachment, enabling behaviors, codependency, family roles, and healthier long-term recovery support. Many people find comfort in hearing from others facing similar situations while learning healthier ways to communicate and respond during stressful moments.

Online sessions continue between other parts of the Family Recovery Program rather than functioning as a one-time educational resource. Families often use these sessions to strengthen support systems, recognize unhealthy relationship patterns, and prepare for the immersive in-person family-intensive experience later in treatment.

Our immersive family intensive helps families rebuild trust and communication

The immersive family-intensive experience gives families dedicated time away from daily distractions to focus fully on recovery, communication, and rebuilding trust together. This 2.5-day on-campus experience usually takes place 4-8 weeks after admission, allowing families time to participate in online therapy sessions and strengthen communication before the intensive begins.

The immersive weekend includes:

  • Thursday evening welcome session and family dinner
  • Friday experiential activities, psychoeducation, and therapist-led process groups
  • Saturday morning group therapy sessions for family members
  • Saturday afternoon joint patient-family sessions
  • Sunday group discussions, recreational activities, and shared family time

Unlike short weekly sessions, the immersive structure allows families to spend extended time practicing healthier communication patterns, processing difficult emotions, and identifying unhealthy relationship dynamics in real time. Many families leave the experience with clearer boundaries, stronger accountability, healthier family interactions, and a better understanding of how addiction and mental health conditions affect the entire family system.

The CARON and MARC Parent and Family Support Group provides community support

The CARON and MARC Parent and Family Support Group provides a free, confidential space where families can receive support, recovery education, encouragement, and guidance from others facing similar challenges. This group focuses not only on supporting the person in treatment, but also on helping families care for their own emotional health during recovery.

The support group is open to parents, spouses, relatives, close friends, and other family members ages 18 and older whose loved ones are currently in treatment, struggling with substance use, or living in recovery. Meetings take place every Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and are available both in person at our Towson location and virtually through Zoom. This hybrid structure allows families to participate consistently while balancing work schedules, childcare responsibilities, transportation challenges, and other daily obligations.

Sessions provide a confidential environment where families can discuss stress, communication challenges, relapse fears, enabling behaviors, boundaries, and the emotional impact addiction often places on the family system. Many people find comfort in hearing from others facing similar situations while building stronger support networks and healthier ways to respond during difficult moments. The group also provides encouragement and hope for families learning how to support recovery in healthier, more sustainable ways.

The Parent and Family Support Group continues beyond the formal Family Recovery Program and provides long-term community support after higher levels of care have ended. Many families continue attending weekly meetings to maintain accountability, strengthen communication patterns, and stay connected to others who understand the realities of addiction and mental health recovery.
