We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Alok Saharan, M.D., as the new Medical Director at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center! Dr. Saharan joins the MARC management team and will oversee our Medical Department and all psychiatric services, working with patients in both our multiple addiction treatment programs as well as MARC’s new mental health intensive outpatient (IOP) program.

About Dr. Alok Saharan

A psychiatrist bringing over 30 years of experience in the field of behavioral healthcare, Dr. Saharan joins us here at MARC with an extensive history working in the areas of adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry. He has led medical departments and clinical teams in various roles, including the roles of Medical Director, lead psychiatrist, and Chairman of the Psychiatric Department in many different healthcare settings that include inpatient psychiatric hospitals and psychiatric units, drug and alcohol detox, residential addiction treatment centers, community outpatients and Medication Assistant Treatment (MAT) clinics, and extended acute settings for mental health.

Dr. Saharan is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and the American Board of Preventive Medicine, with a subspecialty in addiction medicine, as well as a member of the American Psychiatric Association. He graduated from the King George’s Medical College in Lucknow India, where he then went and completed his psychiatry residency. Afterwards, Dr. Saharan moved to the United Kingdom, training in the Oxford rotation in the UK. Upon moving to the United States, he completed a psychiatry residency at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to his education, training, and extensive work history in the field of addiction and mental health treatment, he has also previously worked as an assistant professor at two institutions, won awards as an educator, and spent time as a medical researcher, with multiple published research papers.

When asked what he’s learned in over 30 years in the field of mental health, addiction treatment, and behavioral healthcare, having treated thousands of patients and family members throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and India, Dr. Saharan said it is simple: “Trying your best in life includes asking for help.”

We are grateful to have Dr. Saharan join the MARC team, lead our medical department, and work alongside MARC leadership and our clinical teams in both the addiction treatment and co-occurring programs and our new mental health IOP.
