On Saturday, October 26th from 8am-4pm at the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel in Towson, Maryland, Maryland Addiction Recovery Center is hosting an event open to the local community, “Addiction Support for Families: A Free Community Event.”

The event is open to the community, both the public and professionals working in the addiction treatment and mental health space, but the content of the day will be geared towards parents, spouses, families and loved ones of those suffering from addiction, mental health, and co-occurring disorders. The purpose is to help offer guidance, support, suggestions, and resources for those people who currently have a loved one in active addiction, a loved one currently seeking or currently receiving treatment, or a loved one in early recovery from addiction.

There will be four speakers that have both personal experience with a loved one suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, are in recovery personally, and/or have professional experience working with individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders. The speaker lineup and topics for the event will be:

Following the presentations, Toni Torsch and the Daniel Carl Torsch Foundation will hold a naloxone training for attendees. Lunch will be provided. Registration for this event is not required, but we are asking all those interested to please register here so that there are enough lunches and refreshments for all those that attend.

Again, all from the community are welcome. Families getting help and support is a crucial topic to all those impacted by addiction, as it is known that a loved one has a much greater chance at finding and sustaining personal recovery when their family unit also finds recovery from the chaos of addiction. Family members also need their own help and support, to aid them in overcoming the traumatic impact that their loved one’s addiction has had on their own lives. We hope that all that are available in Baltimore County, Baltimore, and the surrounding counties of Anne Arundel County, Carroll County, Frederick County, Harford County, Howard County, and Montgomery County. attend.
