Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a clinically driven model based on individualized client needs and focuses on the treatment of drug addiction and substance abuse, chemical dependency, and co-occurring disorders. The IOP treatment program is composed of multiple group sessions and at least one individual session per week with a primary therapist. We conveniently offer morning and evening sessions to meet each client’s personal schedules. Included within the IOP treatment program are several specialized therapy and counseling avenues, designed to support the primary treatment program. Among these are family counseling, life skills training and vocational therapy, anger management, trauma, and gender specific groups.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) addiction treatment is commonly either used as a step down following successful completion of a residential treatment or inpatient 30 day treatment program to increase the potential for a successful recovery by reintegrating into everyday life while remaining in ongoing treatment, or a step up when a client struggles at a less intensive level such as an traditional outpatient, individual therapy, individual drug counseling or DUI/DWI education setting. While all situations are different, the patient care must be individualized to determine the major issues a patient is dealing with and the appropriate treatment in order to achieve a successful recovery outcome.

Our morning IOP program initially meets for an intensive five days a week, starting Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is our most intensive level of intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment. Groups begin at five days a week and clients are then stepped down based on clinical progress and assessment from primary therapist and clinical team. Along with our group therapy, every patient at MARC receives individual therapy with a Masters level primary therapist at least once a week, as well as necessary consultations with our staff doctor and staff psychiatrist and family sessions as indicated. This is part of the full complement of services that we offer in our comprehensive IOP program.
Our evening IOP program is perfect for working professionals that need addiction treatment services after the typical work day. Our evening intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment program meets three nights a week from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. This program allows clients time to get to our center after work and receive the high quality treatment they need. Additionally, just like patients attending our morning IOP treatment, those patients attending evening IOP will be assigned a primary therapist, who will schedule at least one session per week to meet for therapy. Our evening IOP patients also will be scheduled to see our staff doctor or to attend family sessions as indicated by our clinical team.
Outpatient therapy for alcohol and drug addiction, chemical dependency, and dual diagnosis issues is a step down from the IOP program. The outpatient program also includes individualized therapy sessions and group sessions. In this phase of treatment the client’s treatment plan will be changed to meet his/hers ongoing recovery needs. In the outpatient phase of treatment, the focus shifts towards external change, where clients will explore long-term goals and identify and break down barriers to recovery. Therapists at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center will continue to support the clients in the vocational, educational and emotional journeys.
